When looking for an internship, consider the direction you would like to take your career and start searching websites of companies or databases that can help you progress toward your goals. The links listed below have been compiled to give you an idea of the resources available to you and as an aid to facilitate your internship search. In addition to the resources listed below, here are a few other ideas to help you get started finding an internship:
  • Visit your Department Internship Coordinator, department Web site, or department job board
  • Check out the Career Center's job board
  • Talk to faculty within your field of study
  • Turn your current job into an internship
  • Talk to other students who have interned in your field of study
  • Set up informational interviews with professionals
  • Check out BYU's eRecruiting
  • Search the telephone directory and submit your resume to applicable companies
  • Search trade publications, classified ads, and professional association job listings
  • Use your parents, friends, and ward contacts
  • Search with an online search engine like Google
  • Use student associations to access professionals

Academia Resource Management :  Offers information on research fellowships and science internship opportunities with the organization's sponsors. Applicants may apply on-line for research or lab positions in science, engineering and related majors.  The site is primarily for undergraduate students, though some opportunities also exist for faculty and post-grad students. 

American Advertising Federation :  Lists several directories of available internships within the advertising profession.

American Society of Newspaper Editors : Offers internships in all levels of newspaper newsroom production.

Apple : Apple's Internship Program provides an extraordinary learning experience for students that can also lead to the beginning of a rewarding career at Apple.

AT&T : Offers six-month internships in a variety of professional areas. Many positions turn into full-time, permanent position.

Balancing Work & Family :  The Space Coast Business Network offers tips to the new professional (and intern) on how to balance work & family.

Boeing :  Boing provides a breadth of opportunities, from commercial aircraft, to next-generation military aircraft, to spacecraft and beyond. There are exciting business opportunities, as well.

Career Builder :  Career Builder is one of the largest sites for professional job seekers and recruiters, but it also hosts a search engine for internships. 

CIA :  Offers student work opportunities in the form of undergraduate student internships or co-ops, and graduate studies programs. If you would like to work with highly skilled professionals to support US officials who make our country's foreign policy, the CIA is looking for you.

Collegegrad.com :  The #1 entry level job site.

College Board Scholarships : Scholarships from the College Board.

Congressional Hunger Center :   This organization sponsors the Mickey Leland Hunger Fellows Program.  Named for US Rep. Leland who died in a plane crash in Ethiopia while on a visit to serve the needs of hungry children in 1989, the organization sponsors one or two-year internships in Washington, D.C., or abroad seeking to change US policies toward hunger in America and the world. 

Cooperative Education & Internship Association (CEIA) :  For forty years, the Cooperative Education & Internship Association, Inc. has provided professional services to our members in cooperative education and internship programs in colleges, universities and business/industry.

DBM Job Scout : A national service that connects job seekers with employers.

Department of Workforce Services :  Utah's most comprehensive job search tool.

Direct Marketing Association :  This national, non-profit organization has a listing service for hundreds of national internships - many of them paid.  The Web site also offers helpful job searching tips and guidelines.

eRecruiting :  Offers students a place to search and apply for jobs and internships online.

The Environmental Careers Organization (ECO):   ECO is a national, non-profit organization that protects and enhances the environment through the development of professionals, the promotion of careers and inspiration of individual action.  More than 8,500 interns have been placed in paid internships nationwide since 1972.  Each year about 650 ECO Associates are placed in paid internships at local, state, and federal government agencies, non-profits, private corporations and consulting firms across the country. 

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC): The EEOC offers internships and entry level positions to law students, as well as many statistics and trends in the job market.

Europlacement.com: A search engine for international internship opportunities.

Everett Internships : Everett is a public service internship site. Search by location, internests, etc.

FastWeb.com : A good source of local scholarships, national scholarships and college-specific scholarships. Also lists jobs and internships for students.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) :   The FBI offers four distinct internship programs that allow students to explore career options within the FBI. 

Federal Jobs :   FedJobs is a comprehensive listing of available positions within the United States Federal Government and other branches.

Fedex :  Offers competitive salaries to interns in many fields of operation.

FinAid.com : A student's guide to scholarships and other sources of financial aid.

The Fund for American Studies : Sponsored by Georgetown University, this summer internship emphasizes three Washington, D.C.-based internship areas for students interested in US policy or government affairs. Categories include comparative political and economic systems, business and government affairs and political journalism.

Historic Preservation Internship Training Program :  Educates tomorrow's historic preservation professionals through the National Park Service.

House :  Lists opportunities within the federal government's departments and agencies.

IBM :  IBM challenges project teams of technical and MBA interns (along with their technical and business mentors) to start something BIG by developing new high-growth businesses. What began in 1999 with 25 summer interns in Cambridge , Mass. , now serves more than 200 students in 12 worldwide labs year-round.

Institute for Experimental Learning :  IEL offers a number of internships in the Washington, D.C. area.  Interns may serve in Federal agencies, the house or senate, the Supreme Court, the Department of State and even inside foreign embassies located in Mexico, Korea, France, Sri Lanka and a few other nations.  They recruit three times per year, so watch the deadlines! 

Intel :  Intel offers a valuable career experience while working with a team that challenges you and appreciates your ideas. Many internships end as student build up careers with Intel.

Intern Abroad :  InternAbroad.com is a great resource for students interested in international internships.

InternHousing.com : Internhousing.com connects students to intern-friendly housing in major cities across the United States.  Ask your employer if a password to internhousing.com is part of your intern package.

Internshipprograms.com :  This free site offers students, employers and college staff to exchange information on internship programs.  The site hosts data sheets on hundreds of companies that give detailed information about the company and the internship opportunities.  Students may also apply directly on-line for many of the companies.

Internships.com : www.internships.com lists internships by location, area of study, and compensation both nationally and internationally.  To access the site, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to: www.internships.com
  2. Click on "Go to Premium Pages."
  3. Select "Brigham Young University - Utah" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter the Promo Code:  Cougars
  5. Click 'Continue'.
  6. Enter name, email, and password.  Click 'Sign Up'.

Internships-usa.com :  Internships-USA.com is the largest internship site on the web with more than 3,000 organizations offering internships for college and law students. Over 100,000 students visit us every month.

Internweb.com :  An online source for internships has thousands of searchable internships.

Internzoo.com :  InternZoo.com is an online internship database for students across the country. Our mission is to enable employers and internship seekers to find each other easily and efficiently.

John F. Kennedy Center :  Internships at the Kennedy Center are designed to offer meaningful learning experiences for people interested in performing arts management and/or arts education.  Upper-level undergraduate students, graduate students, and students who have not been out of school for more than two years are eligible.

Lucent :  Offers internships that provide meaningful and challenging work assignments that compliment academic training and career goals

Magazine Publishers of America :  With more than 240 publishing titles and 1,400 titles among its membership, this non-profit industry association offers a listing of internships available at member magazines such as Vibe, People, Nickelodeon, Gear, YM, Reader's Digest and more. Internship categories include advertising, sales, communications, research, editorial, production, consumer marketing, international and marketing and promotion.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art :  The Met offers several internship opportunities for students in the visual arts and humanities areas.  Many of these opportunities include stipends, scholarships or honorariums. 

Microsoft :  At Microsoft, interns are just like full-time employees-you have enormous responsibility, project ownership, and impact.

MonsterTrak :  Has thousands of full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities whether you're a college student, a recent grad, or just looking for a new job.

MTV :  MTV hires about 700 interns a year in cities throughout the USA.

NASA :  Offers a wide variety of internship opportunities to students throughout the United States .

NASCAR :   NASCAR's internship program allows students to work with NASCAR's sanctioning body, NASCAR sponsors and licensees, NASCAR teams and tracks, and other motorsports-related companies.

National Internship Directory :  Offerrs a free search of internships across the nation.

National Society for Experimental Education (NSEE) :   The National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) is a nonprofit membership association of educators, businesses, and community leaders. Founded in 1971, NSEE also serves as a national resource center for the development and improvement of experiential education programs nationwide.

NBC :  NBC works directly with colleges and universities to provide stellar internships in a fast-paced environment. 

NCAA Scholarships and Internships : Scholarships and internship opportunities for the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Orion Grassroots Network :   Connects students and professionals with cutting-edge environmental and social change work by advertising internships, jobs, and apprenticeships.

People to People International :  PTPI is a non-political, non-profit organization founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The organization seeks to place students in internships and study abroad programs in a wide range of fields. 

Princeton Review :  Offers a free and extensive career and internship search of thousands of organizations and postings.

Quintessential Careers :  Offers job and career resources for college students including how to find an internship, tips on succeeding, and turning your internship into a job. Also provides some search engines.

Rainforest Action Network :  A non-profit organization based in San Francisco, this group works to protect the Earth's rainforests and support the rights of their inhabitants through education, grassroots organizing and non-violent direct action.  Interns can serve any 3-month period. 

Rising Star Internships :   Rising Star offers many internship listings throughout the United States in a variety of career fields.

RIT : Gives a comprehensive list of potential internships for pre-med students.

Rite Aid :  Offers business management internships and pharmaceutical internships.

Scholarships.com : Scholarship database of more than 3,000 sources.

Smithsonian Opportunities for Research and Study :  Whatever your interest-folklore, African art, space travel or astrophysics-the Smithsonian has an internship to match.

Sprint :  Sprint's interns go back to school with powerful industry insights, valuable networking contacts, professional references and a sharper focus for their career plans.

State Farm :  State Farm offers real world opportunit. Development. Hands on. Teamwork. Do these words mean anything to you? They should if you're looking for an internship with State Farm® because that's what you're going to get.

Student Conservation Association :   Interns can serve at any number of national parks, national recreation areas, national forests or other federally-supported locations assisting with building and maintaining trails, helping programs and personnel within the parks and participating in a variety of other outdoor assignments.  Students have ample time off to explore and hike their assigned areas.  Internships are unpaid, but lodging, meals and travel are included. 

Student Jobs :  Studentjobs.gov is a joint venture between the United States Office of Personnel Management and the U.S. Department of Education's Student Financial Assistance office. It lists a variety of programs available to students from all academic disciplines.  

TVJobs.com : TVjobs.com offers listings for students seeking production, editing, researching, or other emphases with cable networks (i.e. CTV, NBC, Oxygen) or specific shows (i.e. America 's Most Wanted, National Geographic Today, and Showtime).

United Nations : The United Nations offers 120 internships every four months to qualified graduate students.

United Negro College Fund : An advanced search engine for scholarships and grants.

United States Department of Agriculture : Provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid opportunities to serve as assistants to scientific, professional, administrative, and technical employees.  USDA also provides opportunities for persons to fulfill their career goals through challenging internships that provide a path to permanent employment.

United States Department of Transportation : Has opportunities available for students in a wide variety of fields.

Utah State Department Jobs : A current listing of available jobs within the Utah State government and affiliated departments.

US State Department :  The government offers a summer internship program in which students help the American embassy by writing reports, composing classified cables and working on various projects given by the staff.

US Interns :  Provides a database of nationwide internships and jobs, and allows students to post a resume to its resume bank.

Walgreens :   Offers internships in pharmacy, retail management, technology, and corporate fields.

The Washington Center for Internships :   TWC is a nonprofit, educational organization that provides full-time internships for college students who seek a quality, supervised internship for academic credit. 

The Washington Internship Institute :   Offers opportunities to learn, explore, achieve, and discover.

The Washington Internship Program :   Has been the top-rated DC internship program for 18 years. Offers opportunities to learn, explore, achieve, and discover.

Washington Semester and World Capitals Programs :  Offered by the American University, this program offers  two summer sessions which take interns into the work site 4-1/2 days per week with a faculty led seminar the other 1/2 day.  Students earn 3 academic credits which are transferable to their home school.  Internships are available in national government & politics; economic policy and international business; print and broadcast media & communication; foreign policy & international affairs; arts & humanities; justice & law. 

Western Association of Colleges & Employers (WACE) :   WACE is a professional association of approximately 500 college career planning and placement offices and representatives from business, industry, and government who recruit, employ, and train graduates of colleges and universities in the western states and Canada.

White House Government Internships :  Interns at the Social Office help plan White House dinners and other gatherings, while other government internships are working for the Chief of Staff, Counsel to the President, Office of the First Lady, the National AIDS Policy and other offices.

World Health Organization :  Offers internship opportunities for graduate or post-graduate university students, generally in health-related programs.

World Trade Organization :  Offers internships in Geneva , Switzerland to students in relevant academic disciplines like economics, law, political science, or international relations.
